I was chaplain of the 1/501st
Infantry Battalion, 101st Airborne in 68-69. We had a Choi Hoi
that we called White Elephant: don't know why.
He was about twelve or so and when I showed
up at the company or platoon, he would always come to the services. I
knew he didn't understand a word but he acted like he did. One time, I
decided that I'd have a little fun and so spent a while teaching him to
say Amen. He was suppose to close the service after the benediction with
Amen. We rehearsed it and were ready to go. I had the final prayer,
pointed to him and he jumped up with a big grin on his face and let go
with "Airborne ...."
Guess you had to be there.
