George was an intelligent, clean-cut, responsible young man with F-Troop 8th Cavalry, an air cavalry unit at Chu Lai. We used to run together sometimes in the evenings when he wasn't forward. I could never keep up with him. It often seemed true that it was the best guys who got hit most often.
